Over the past few decades, one of the largest European open-air museums has emerged near the beautiful Dreiburgensee. Meanwhile more than 160, mostly furnished buildings, attract numerous visitors every year. When you enter the museum village, you immerse yourself in a world long past and see the different types of buildings in the Bavarian Forest from the 14th to 19th centuries: mills, sawmills, monuments, chapels. The oldest elementary school in Germany is a special attraction.
A village without craft was inconceivable. Therefore, visitors can visit numerous workshops, such as a wagon workshop, a carpenter's workshop, a blacksmith's shop or a shoemaker's shop. Handicraft demonstrations take place regularly during the season.
A visit to the museum village is an experience especially for families with children. There is a children's playground, a historic bowling alley and a wide range of educational museum offers. But people with disabilities and senior citizens also feel at home here.
